SSC MTS Exam – Complete Guide

1. What is SSC MTS Exam?

  • SSC MTS = Staff Selection Commission – Multi-Tasking (Non-Technical) Staff Examination.
  • Conducted by SSC every year.
  • Recruits candidates for Group C non-gazetted posts in various ministries, departments & government offices of India.
  • It is one of the most popular exams for 10th pass (Matriculation) candidates.

3. Eligibility Criteria

(a) Nationality

  • Must be an Indian citizen.

(b) Age Limit

  • 18–25 years (for some posts)
  • 18–27 years (for Havaldar & some MTS posts)

📌 Relaxations:

  • OBC: +3 years
  • SC/ST: +5 years
  • PwD: +10 years

(c) Educational Qualification

  • Must have passed 10th (Matriculation) from a recognized board.

4. SSC MTS Selection Process

The exam has 2 stages:

  1. Paper I (Computer-Based Test) – Objective.
  2. PET/PST (Physical Test) – Only for Havaldar posts.
  3. Document Verification (DV) – Final stage.

(Note: Earlier there was a Descriptive Paper (Tier II), but it has been removed since 2022.)

🔹 Negative marking: –1 for each wrong answer.
 
🔹 Exam held in 15+ languages (including Hindi, Tamil, Telugu, etc.).

PET / PST (For Havaldar Only)

(a) Physical Efficiency Test (PET)

  • Male: Walk 1600 meters in 15 min
  • Female: Walk 1 km in 20 min

(b) Physical Standard Test (PST)

  • Height (Male): 157.5 cm (relaxations for reserved)
  • Height (Female): 152 cm
  • Chest (Male only): 76 cm (with 5 cm expansion)

6. Application Process

  1. Visit ssc.nic.in.
  2. Complete One-Time Registration (OTR).
  3. Fill SSC MTS application form online.
  4. Upload documents (photo/sign).
  5. Pay application fee.

  • SC/ST/PwD/Ex-Servicemen/Women: No Fee

(a) General Intelligence & Reasoning

  • Coding-Decoding, Series, Analogy, Odd One Out, Venn Diagram, Directions, Blood Relations.

(b) Numerical Aptitude

  • Simplification, Percentage, Profit & Loss, Ratio, Time & Work, SI & CI, Average, Mensuration, Data Interpretation (basic).

(c) English Language

  • Comprehension, Vocabulary, Synonyms/Antonyms, Sentence Improvement, Fill in the Blanks, Error Spotting.

(d) General Awareness

  • Current Affairs (last 6 months), History, Geography, Polity, Economics, Science basics, Static GK.
